One year about the life of the stork colony at San Roque



"Don´t worry, everybody is getting something!":

"Well, this bite was a little too big for my chicks. Then I´ll eat it myself!" father stork is happy about that:


"There is something fantastic for my kids. Snake is served for dinner!":

Nearly intolerable narrow it becomes now for the stork youngsters in the nest:

After six weeks of self-sacrificing care by the parents, the youngsters grew to the size of their parents. Only the wing feathers and the flight feathers are not yet completely developed and the beak is still dark instead of light red:

Flying must be learned now! In turns the young storks exercise in the nest their flying muscles. How big must be their state of longing to leave the narrowness of the nest and to conquer the air!

"Mum, look, I finally took off for a few centimeters!":

Also in this nest the efforts to take off are more and more successful:

Proudly the mother is watching her sons' first efforts to fly, while its brother is watching a little jealous:

"Yahoo, I am flying!!!!!" A little upwind is enough and the young stork makes its first round around the nest:
