Gualdalhorce-mouth near Málaga
November 6 2009

Also the European goldfinches had a great day at the Guadalhorce-bank:

We hit the trail by walking …

… to the actual nature reserve:

Shovelers in the air:

Arrival at an observation point …

… on first few there was not a lot going on, but we …

… discovered far away an osprey in his winter quarters. Osprey are ony winter guests in Spain. For years they are not nesting here anymore. But a very friendly person responsible for the Junta de Andalucia, explained us, what great efforts are made that these birds get their habitats and protection also in Spain back again.

Two female marsh-harriers hunting:

A young white-headed duck enjoys the beautiful day …

… as well as this sandpiper:

Only this kingfisher again did not keep still for a photo!

And finally we were lucky enough to see all together four black storks in the air. This shy birds are rather seldom in this area.

It was not only wonderful beautiful at the Guadalhorce, but also very interesting, because the persons responsible of the Junta de Andalucia, whom we met, explained a lot and gave us continuously good tips for other observation areas. He also showed us posts where the owls are sitting during the nights. And really underneath the posts we found pellets in which clearly a little mouse head was to be seen. Admirable how this biologist recognized all details in this pellets und how nice with what quiet enthusiasm he explained the process in the nature. It was just terrific!
