Lagoons at Campillos and Fuente de Piedra
January 28 2010

In the bushes at the bank landed goldfinches and …

…a southern grey shrike (meridonialis), which …

… got company from one of the numberless wagtails, with which he for some time had an animated discussion!

The shielding walls of the observation hut have to be observed steadily! Once in a while Mr. Hoopoe was landing there:

Because the lagoon of Fuente de Piedra was only a few miles away I also drove there. The visitor centre …

… is now completely renovated and is offering very interesting exhibitions. But the weather was really too nice to stay inside:

Also the lagoons of Fuente de Piedra are now well filled with water, but - oh dear - I hardly saw any bird there!

Except a few stilts, whose …

… loud and excited calls broke the silence and …

… except for shovelers I could not see anybody. But until a few days ago there were flocks of stone curlews.

Well, the stone curlews I did not find, but a huge flock of cranes, who …

… stayed on the surrounding fields …

… of the lagoon …

.… and their happy trumpet calls were the final touch of this wonderful day!

Best regards
